There is a mixture of food shops with fresh fruit, vegetable and fish markets catering to the locals combined with mainly (upmarket) tourist focussed shops selling Murano glass, ornaments and paintings. The latter are in the area between the Peggy Guggenheim Museum and the Salute church. The food markets and shops are principally in Campo Santa Margherita.
Worth a mention is the much photographed fruit and vegetable shop on a boat on Fondamenta Gherardini, close to Campo Santa Margherita. There is also a lovely linen shop called ‘Annelie’ which sells fine Italian and other linens, which are either great for authentic gifts or for your own home. Annelie is at Calle Lunga San Barnaba (2748 Dorsoduro, Venice). Annelie herself is lovely and speaks excellent English.
There is a shop selling very original kitchenware in Campo San Barnaba (close to Ca’ Rezzonico vaporetto stop) called “Madera”. If you have the luggage allowance, they have some well made, original items. www.maderavenezia.it. They close for lunch between 1pm and 4.30pm.
