Scuola Grande di San Rocco

This is where you can see the work of Tintoretto in its finest and most epic iteration.  Tintoretto started work here in 1564 and finished painting here 23 years later, when he was in his sixties. The interior of the building is little short of breathtaking and is a must see in Venice.  The scuoli grandi in Venice, which dated from 13th century, were religious and / or charitable institutions set up by lay people, rather than by the church or the State of Venice governing council.  There were six in Venice, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco being the most grand.
