Vini da Gigio

As the name suggests, the owners are passionate about wine. The food is equally as important to them with produce being sourced daily from the Rialto Market, with plenty of traditional Venetian dishes.

A smart, atmospheric osteria in a quiet area of Cannaregio. Nice tables outside in the summer months. The chef is Sicilian and makes his pasta fresh daily.
Slightly off the beaten track down Fondamenta Savorgnan. Excellent fried seafood (“frittura”) and pleasant, casual atmosphere.
High quality fish and seafood on offer in this well run restaurant.
In a tranquil location, Osteria Trefanti is a small, intimate but very pleasant restaurant.
Homely and cosy casual restaurant with a lovely atmosphere.
Unusually for Venice, where fish is what is usually on offer, La Zucca offers vegetarian and meat dishes.
Lovely location by a junction of a couple of canals. Casual, friendly, low key trattoria with very good home made food.
Very useful to know about this affordable and good quality restaurant in a touristy part of Venice.
Located in the heart of the San Polo district, this is a long established and well respected restaurant.
This restaurant is a great favourite of mine serving high quality and very accessible food.
A favourite of mine. Near the Rialto market, the food is excellent and reasonably priced.
These are in very short supply. If either the Osteria Enoteca San Marco or the ABC Bistrot Quadri do not appeal, I would recommend making your way across the Grand Canal to the Dorsoduro sestiere.
This contemporary styled osteria is open all day from 12.30pm and is located very close to St. Mark’s Square.

The two standout restaurants in the San Marco district are Club del Doge in the Gritti Palace Hotel and Gran Caffe Quadri restaurant in St. Mark’s Square.
The story of how this bar was set up is a heart warming one, of how Giuseppe Cipriani, loaned money to an American called Harry Pickering, who had fallen out with his wealthy family.
This is the upstairs part of the Gran Caffè Quadri and the only fine dining restaurant in St. Mark’s Square.
The restaurant here, both food and setting, are fabulous.
Budget / informal restaurants in San Marco are in very short supply.
