Campanile (Bell Tower)

This is the bell tower of St. Mark’s Basilica which was rebuilt in 1912 in the same style after it collapsed in 1902.  The replacement tower was built using more modern materials than the wood, brick and marble available 1000 years previously and weighted 600 tons less. You can go to the top of the Campanile in a lift and on a clear day, the views over Venice are wonderful. It is 323ft (or 82m) high.
