Ai Gondolieri

Ai Gondolieri is in a lovely setting by a picturesque canal seconds from the Peggy Guggenheim Museum and a 5 minute walk from the Salute church and the Accademia Bridge.

I highly recommend Ai Gondolieri. The service is friendly and courteous, old school Italian professionalism.  The food, meat being a speciality, is excellent.

Starters include warm veal salad with white mushrooms or aged parma ham.  Pasta courses include sage scented pumpkin ravioli, or risotto with porcini mushrooms and white truffle from Alba. Main courses include rosemary scented rack of baby pork or fillet of beef with porcini in a Barolo red wine sauce.  A two course lunch for two cost, without wine, cost me €100.

Typical prices:

A three course meal comprising antipasta, pasta and main course would cost around €70 per person excluding drinks.

Opening times:

Open daily all year between 12.00 noon and 11.30pm. Lunch is served between 12 noon and 2.30pm and dinner between 7pm and 11.30pm.  In the afternoon, between 3pm and 7pm, snacks and drinks are available from their bar. Last orders 10pm.

Closest vap stop:

Accademia and Salute. Less than a 5 minute walk from either.

How to get there:

Very close to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum which is well signposted. Find Fondamenta Venier da Leoni which is the footpath that runs parallel and behind the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. Across a small footbridge, on the opposite side is the resetaurant.
